An outstanding artdeco building utilised as cinema and a theatre since 1930
Leeton's only cinema is situated on the corner of Wade Avenue South and Pine Avenue, Leeton. It was opened on 7 April 1930 purely for usage as a cinema. In 1933 a stage was added and it was officially opened by Australia's most famous and internationally celebrated singer of that time, Gladys Moncrief, known affectionately as "Our Glad". Since 1933 the Theatre has operated continuously providing both film and live entertainment to residents of Leeton and the surrounding area. The Roxy film screen is one of the largest roll-up mechanized screens in Australia measuring approximately 16 metres wide by 8 metres high.
The Theatre is one of a very small number of two level cinemas in the State. The Theatre is listed by the NSW State Heritage Office and has been classified by the National Trust and, in its present role, is a multi-function centre combining concert, live theatre, films and community events with a capacity of 700 seats. Currently screening days are Fridays and Saturdays, with special Matinees held during school holidays.
